Enough is enough

I like to think of myself as a tenacious person. I can stick with something even when it gets tough. I tell myself that I never want to not do something just because it is difficult.

Times when I have toughed it out:

• Counseling at Wildwood
• The Semester of Death 2010
• College

Persevering through difficulty often makes you stronger, smarter, wiser.

But sometimes, no matter how much effort you put into your job, it will never be worth it. And sometimes, sticking with it means that you miss the opportunity to change for the better. This is when you need to say enough is enough. I'm out of here.

Examples of when to say enough is enough:

• Abusive relationships
• Terrible stories you hear about human rights violations that occur while people stand by and watch.
• Joe Paterno when he found out about Jerry Sandusky's abuse
• When banks routinely made loans to people who would not be able to repay them prior to the 2008 crash

I'm in a place right now where I have the choice to stick it out or step aside. Whatever I choose, I hope that I do so with the wisdom and the courage needed to act when it is time to say enough is enough.
